Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I see a Registered Psychotherapist?

A: A Registered Psychotherapist can help support you in a way that is unique to you to help you work through situations that you are going through in your life. During this unique relationship you can expect to feel in control of your situation, guided, and safe. A RP is here to help you achieve set goals, without telling you what to do, but by gently making suggestions, and reflection based upon what is talked about in session. This is a shared journey where you are the driver and the RP is in the passenger seat helping you navigate.

Q: What does the first session look like?

A: The first session is spent building rapport, hearing out your concerns and goals for therapy. In this session a lot of information will be gathered so I am able to understand what the challenge is from your point of view and how I can help guide you to the space that you want to be in. This is your time to share your story with me and for you to also determine if you feel like we are a good fit. Do you feel safe with me? Do you feel trust? This is very important to consider when working with a new therapist.

Q: How long are therapy sessions? and how often do we meet?
A: Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long- in some cases I can offer 90 minutes if it is required. I recommend to start with once a week to help with developing the therapeutic relationship, as well as gaining some movement towards your goals. Once you feel that you are making a bit of progress, meeting less frequently can be discussed.

Q: How long will therapy last?
A: Therapy can last from one session to several months, or years. This all depends on the context of your situation and what you need.

Q: What type of payment do you accept?

A: All major credit cards/ e-transfer.

Q: Do you prescribe medication?

A: No. I am not a medical doctor. If you require medication it would best to contact your family physician so they can connect you with a Psychiatrist to further assist you with this.

Q: Do you accept insurance? Are psychotherapy services covered through OHIP?

A: No, I do not accept insurance, at the time of session you will be charged in full. If you have an insurance plan, I can provide you with a receipt for you to submit as a claim to your provider, so you are able to receive a reimbursement. For the service. Psychotherapy services is not covered under OHIP.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: I provide 24 hour notice for any appointment cancellations. If you fail to do so, you will be charged in full for the missed session. I do provide an occasional exception in case of an emergency. If you are cancelling frequently, therpay may be terminated- as it will not help you progress.
